The divine power of feminine energy and the dark forces of heavy metal collide in Runesaber, female-fronted melodic thrash band from San Diego, California. Forged out of founder and frontwoman Shaynie Rhoads’ love for heavy metal, fantasy and the color pink, Runesaber brings stories of magic and mystical creatures to life through thunderous riffs and spellbinding vocals. She calls their sound “pink metal.”
Runesaber was founded in 2024 by guitarist Shaynie Rhoads. She met Ian Bassett while applying to SDSU for grad school, initially as his student as she prepared for her audition into the Master’s of Music program. Upon their first meeting, they instantly bonded over their love for heavy metal and classical guitar.
When Shaynie began writing music for a new project she'd started, she asked Ian if he might be interested in joining as a live member, and he agreed to fill in until she found someone more permanent. But as Shaynie's writing process became more closely intertwined with Ian's leads, reinforced by their shared background in classical music, he became a crucial element to the conception of Runesaber.
Runesaber independently released their first single, "Last Bite," on February 13, 2025. They are now working on their first full-length album. Their influences include Megadeth, Metallica, Judas Priest, Testament, Diamond Head and Iron Maiden.
